Backup & restore
The DR environment does not need to be running. When disaster strikes, you provision everything and restore from backups.

Best fit
Non-critical or tolerant systems
Useful when downtime measured in hours is acceptable.
Tradeoff
Cheap to idle
Expensive in time and operator pressure during an actual emergency.
Memory line: cold standby buys savings by spending time later.
